From the first tipple and taste to those golden-hour riverfront sunsets, there’s something about Rickys River Bar & Restaurant that lingers in your memory long after you leave. Ida Fink Gundtoft shares her top ten reasons to return to Rickys, time and time again.

There are places you visit, and then there are places that evoke your senses and become embedded in your memory. Rickys River Bar & Restaurant is the kind of destination where a lunch turns into an afternoon, and celebrations carry on long after the last glass is empty. It’s refined without pretence, iconic without trying too hard, and always exactly what you need it to be.

It’s difficult to put your finger on just one thing that makes Rickys so memorable so (if we must choose), here are the top ten things we love about Rickys…

1. The view
Let’s start with the obvious. That front-row seat to the Noosa River is nothing short of mesmerising. Boats drift past, light dances on the water, and time seems to soften. It’s the kind of view that makes you instinctively exhale and stay a little longer than planned.

2. Multi-generational memories
Rickys isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a tradition. Families return seasonally, marking milestones, anniversaries, birthdays and those ‘just because’ moments. Children grow up with Rickys at the centre of their celebrations, and before long, they’re bringing their own children back. It’s legacy dining, in the most heartfelt sense.
There’s something beautifully full-circle about the story behind Rickys. Long before they were at the helm, General Manager David Jouy and his now-wife and Administration Coordinator Renee, were regular guests, travelling up from Sydney and returning to Rickys whenever they were in Noosa.
It was here, overlooking the river, that David proposed to Renee. Not long after, they made the move north, stepping into the very place that had meant so much to them. That sense of connection still shapes the experience they deliver, after working alongside each other for
11 years. The moments that initially drew them in – the setting, the food, the feeling – are the same ones they now create for others. It’s this kind of magic, where the people behind the restaurant understand exactly why it matters, because they’ve lived it themselves.

3. Signature dishes that stay with you
There are meals you enjoy, and then there are dishes you think about weeks later. Rickys has mastered the latter. The spanner crab spaghettini: delicate, rich, unmistakable; the fried three cheese stuffed olives: indulgent, addictive, impossible to share; and the passionfruit soufflé: light, bright, and worth saving room for, every single time.

4. The team behind the magic
Great venues are built on great people, and Rickys is no exception. From David’s steady leadership and the friendly front of house team to the heroes of the kitchen under Head Chef Enrique Mancilla’s thoughtful culinary direction, a genuine care for the craft flows through every part of the experience. It’s polished, professional and personal with many of the same friendly and familiar faces that have been there for six-to-ten years. Hospitality here is a true passion.

5. The River Bar
For something a little more relaxed (but no less memorable) the River Bar delivers. It’s where cocktails meet conversation, where afternoons slip into evenings, and where you can soak up that signature Rickys atmosphere without the formality of a full dining experience. Just ask Restaurant & Beverage Manager, James Rothwell, whose expertise in both dining and drinks ensures every detail is thoughtfully considered and perfectly matched and delivered.

6. Arrive by water (or by car)
There’s something undeniably special about pulling up to lunch by boat. Rickys embraces its riverside location in a way few venues can, offering guests the option to arrive via the water – a quintessential Noosa experience. Of course, if you’re arriving by car, the welcome is just as warm.

7. A true farm-to-fork philosophy
Behind the scenes, there’s a strong commitment to origin. With produce sourced from the restaurant group’s own Maravista Farm alongside trusted local suppliers, the menu reflects a deep respect for seasonality and sustainability.

8. The wine list
Curated with care, the wine list is both extensive and approachable. Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply elevating a long lunch, there’s always the perfect drop waiting to be discovered (and expertly recommended).

9. The occasion factor
Rickys has an innate understanding of occasion. Weddings, milestone birthdays, corporate events or spontaneous celebrations – it rises to meet them all. It’s the kind of place where you can say ‘I do’ or ‘woohoo!’ in equal measure, knowing every detail will be handled with style by Wedding Manager, Sinead Murtagh, every detail is meticulously looked after.

10. Those spectacular sunsets
And then, just when you think it couldn’t get better, the sun begins to set. The river glows, the sky melts into colourful hues, and everything becomes a little more golden. It’s a reminder of why this place holds such a special spot in so many hearts.

Rickys doesn’t rely on trends or fleeting moments. It endures because it understands something deeper: that great food, beautiful surroundings and genuine hospitality never go out of style. And that’s something worth celebrating.
