Fair-skinned coastal dwellers will relate to that feeling that creeps up when summer hits – we need a little colour before we expose our pale pins to the world. As a very experienced, lifelong user of tanning products I am always delighted to see advancements in the market. I began tanning in the Ambre Solaire era – late 80s to early 90s and around the time we were also using Sun In to lighten our hair. I was of the generation rocking around with orange tinted hair and skin so I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the fine art of self-tanning.
As a weekly sunsafe tanner I can honestly say I would have tried every product on the market from salon spray tans to nasal sprays and every cream, mousse and oil on the market. My bathroom cupboard looks like a tanning product graveyard. The tried, tested and failed, the go-to’s and back ups are all found on the lower shelf alongside my setting powders and application mitts and a bottle of tan eraser (don’t waste your money on that stuff by the way).
When I laid eyes on Noosa Bronze, I knew this could be my new best tanning friend. Firstly, it’s from Noosa and we all love that, the packaging is cool but the clever marketing of the brand told me I could ‘enhance my natural radiance and leave my skin with a sun-kissed glow that exudes health and vitality” – I was sold on a deep, emotional level! It’s not easy maintaining healthy looking skin as a regular tanner – the products can be drying and its even harder as you age and lose collagen.
I think I may have been one of the first customers to order Noosa Bronze online and I was excited to try this new player in the game. I started with the Face Tanning Mist and Express Tanning Mousse for the rest of my body. The result was as advertised “a sun-kissed glow” – the colour is bloody brilliant, it’s easy to apply, no streaking and my skin didn’t dehydrate overnight. In order to create the perfect tanning product you must be a self-tanning enthusiast so I had to meet the Noosa Bronze founder to talk tanning!
Nadia McCrohon is a woman that speaks my skin language.
“I have also grown up with very fair, sensitive skin, and I have always struggled to find the right tanning products which didn’t irritate my skin or make me break out into a rash,” she shares as we gush over her new range. “I’ve also had several skin cancers and moles removed so spending hours in the sun trying to achieve a natural tan just isn’t an option for me.”
When Nadia and husband / business partner Geoff relocated from a busy corporate life in Sydney to settle on the Sunshine Coast, the change led them to explore the idea of creating a tanning product for all skin types that really delivered the Noosa glow, was kind on the skin, easy to apply and, most importantly, Australian made.
“Being Australian-made and owned was critical for us when launching the business,” Nadia shares. “Self-tanning is a competitive market and we believe consumers are conscious of where products are made, and they want to back Australian companies. We always wanted to support our local economy and help Australian businesses thrive, so keeping all operations nationally is very important for us.”
“The resounding feedback we have had so far is Noosa Bronze offers a natural colour and subtle scent,” Nadia says.
“You can control the depth of colour, depending on the duration which you leave the products on for. For a subtle tan, leave it on for two hours, or if you want a deeper tan you can leave it on for 10 hours. I sleep in the Express Tanning Mousse for a natural, deep-bronzed glow, and as it doesn’t transfer to bed sheets or clothes it makes tanning so simple.
“It’s very smooth and easy to apply to your skin, and it’s quite difficult to muck up the application.”
