The Surfing Dog Championships, held as part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing, is undoubtedly the most anticipated event of the entire festival!
On Saturday, 15 May at 1:30pm, the talented dogs and their owners will take to the waves of First Point, Noosa Heads, all vying for the coveted Best Wave Award.
Long-time sponsor of the event, VetShopAustralia, has teamed up with new preventative product Simparica Trio to promote the importance of waterproof parasite protection and overall pet health.
VetShopAustralia head veterinarian, Dr. Mark Perissinotto said “VetShopAustralia and Simparica Trio are committed to nurturing pet-parent bond through fun outdoor activities such as the VetShopAustralia Surfing Dog Championships.
“An ideal partner for Australia’s premier dog surfing event, Simparica Trio protects your dog against fleas, ticks and heartworm.
“It provides triple protection against the greatest threats to dogs, making it a great choice for outdoor adventures and waterproof parasite protection.”
The 2021 VetShopAustralia Surfing Dog Championships will see the return of 2020 winner Hugsley, the Spanador (Spaniel x Labrador) with a stick obsession who wowed the crowd with owner Jonesy and kids Opal and Huey on board as well.
2019 champions Chris and ball-mad Banjo are also returning to the water in the hope of claiming back their crown.
‘Mr Dog Surf’ himself, Chris de Aboitiz and his loyal companions Max and Rama will no doubt wow the crowd with new stunts and surprises, and if weather allows, rise above the waves on a hydrofoil-mounted surfboard.
After a break in 2020, Hawaiian lei-wearing Border Collie Anna will return to the surf with owner Caitlin but without her long-time partner Indie who has officially retired from competition.
Joining the line-up for the first time just last year and returning for another crack at the crown in 2021 is William with owner Eliza, cutie Kai with owner Zanna and the smallest competitor, Woody, who had only been training for a few weeks before he jumped on a board back in 2020.
Acrobatic superstar Sage and owner Dan will be performing their incredible tricks to amazed onlookers on the sand of Main Beach at 1pm, just before the surfing starts.
Gold Coast local and crowd favourite Porkchops returns in 2021 and will be joined by owner Sam on the board to show off his unique surfing style.
Don’t miss all the action and get down early to secure your spot on the beach or the rocks. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed to attend due to council restrictions.
