08 Mar Upcycled Rag Rugs Workshop
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! We have other workshops available here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/bigbeautifulsky/events/?ref=page_internal
Transform old fabric and off-cuts into beautiful, upcycled rag rugs at our studio and workshop in Noosaville.
Naomi Huntsman aka, The Sewloist, will teach you the technique of making ‘rag rugs’ from upcycled fabric and remnants. Using only a safety pin and strips of fabric you will make the beginnings of a rag rug.
Naomi will provide a selection of fabrics to work with during the workshop, however, you are encouraged to bring your own lightweight, woven cottons (including bed sheets, pillowcases, etc.) that can be torn into long strips to make your own rag rug.
This workshop gives you the starting point and techniques for making this style of rug, however, the process of completing your own rug will take more than two hours. This means that you will be taking your projects home with you to complete! During the workshop you will begin two rag rugs so different design elements can be learned.
What You’ll Get: two hours of tuition + selection of fabrics to work with during the workshop + walk away with the beginnings of two rag rugs + new friends!
What to Bring: Nothing but nimble fingers! If you’d like to get started on a more personalised rug please bring your own lightweight woven cottons that can be torn into strips. Wine + nibbles post creation and time to meet other crafty folk.
Naomi Huntsman is passionate about handmade clothing and fostering a creative community. As the Sewloist, she hand makes clothing with vintage and designer fabrics. She also weaves her magic rag rug workshops at various festivals and events and throughout Southeast Queensland.
