Seafood & Salivate at Noosa Harbour Fish Market
Noosa Harbour Fish Market has been the finest catch for 25 years, agrees Helen Flanagan, a big fan from day one.
Family-owned since 2000 and famous for serving the freshest of available seafood with a few menu additions along the way, Noosa Harbour Fish Market at the Noosa Marina has been the undeniable cornerstone of success.
Not surprising, given that Janete and Bruce Ramsay, blessed with entrepreneurial spirit, raised the bar in hospitality. From early on, the Gympie chapter included Stewart and Co, a liquor wholesaler serving the Sunshine Coast; a night club; and a restaurant, Le Chat.
Following the tragic and sudden passing of Bruce, Janete with sons Nathan, Scott and Woody, who had just finished high school, soldiered on in the three businesses, until a favourable offer came with a huge sigh of relief.
Noosa Harbour Fish Market had been set up by Noosa Marina with the team from Trios restaurant managing it for the first 12 months of trading.
Janete jumped at the chance to purchase it and Team Ramsay was back in the game, and closer to home.
Woody has been in the business with Janete for years and has taken over the helm since she retired last year.
“It was important for me to keep this great family business in Noosa,” he says.
These days Janete prefers golf, hiking and time with her grandchildren.
“The boys have been involved over the years however the focus on fresh local seafood remains constant, as well as supporting local farmers, and sustainable producers,” she says
“Some things have not changed. Essential Grain make rolls especially for us, Noosa Village Meats supply their best beef for burgers, and a farmer from Gunalda delivers just-picked lemons every fortnight.
“Sauces are made from scratch using ingredients such as Forage Farm organic eggs for our oil roasted garlic aioli tartar.
“Tempura batter follows our original recipe, marinades and salads from Whisk are made fresh and delivered daily.
“We make our own fish bites, fresh crumb calamari every day or salt and pepper, if you wish. Fish tacos are with barramundi, our house-made pickled onions and sauce.”
These days fresh prawns are direct from Brian’s QSS trawler in Mooloolaba; a significant seafood supplier is Daniel Street Fish Market in Caloundra, also The Fish Factory in Brisbane, and from the pristine waters of Marlborough in New Zealand comes the delectable Ora King Salmon.

Eight years ago Noosa Harbour Fish Market received its liquor licence.
“We have several beers on tap such as Coopers Pale, Sapporo and Boiling Pot Golden Ale,” explains Woody.
“Australian wines are well represented on the list such as Hills & Coast McLaren Vale Shiraz; Solara Prosecco; Longview Queenie Pinot Grigio from Adelaide; SOS Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley; plus Ant Moor Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough; and a cheeky Domaine Chatillon French Rosé.”
