How do your hormones affect your skin – particularly in perimenopause, menopause and beyond? Rebecca Jamieson Dwyer discovers the local clinic that’s empowering women to look and feel their best with a holistic approach to beauty.

There’s a change in the air! Once a taboo topic, a new generation of women are speaking openly about perimenopause and menopause – helping others feel less alone and offering strategies for them to thrive during this time of transition.

One of these women is Bianca Dyda: registered nurse, aesthetic trainer, and founder of the results-focused Noosa cosmetic clinic, Cosmedic Lab.

The topic of menopause arrived front and centre for Bianca: first in her own life, then in her clinic. She says that as someone who deals with skin every day, she realised her clients needed a holistic approach to their health to complement their treatments.

“Menopause is a natural part of life that affects every woman in a variety of ways, including their skin, but up until recently so little information was accessible,” she says. “I’m 37 years old and have a family history of early menopause, so this is something I’ve been dealing with on a personal level, as well as in the treatment chair with my beautiful clients.

“Our customer base here at Cosmedic Lab is mainly women aged 35 and above, so we wanted to offer a service that explains how hormones affect skin health, alongside providing our tailored beauty and cosmetic treatments and products.”

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can wreak havoc on skin due to a drop in estrogen and hyaluronic acid, often resulting in dryness, increased fine lines, dullness and sagging, seemingly overnight.

Increased cortisol can also trigger redness, eczema, and those frustrating breakouts; not high on anyone’s wishlist!

“People tend to think hormonal changes only affect women in their 50s, but perimenopausal symptoms can start as early as your 30s and are relatively common throughout your 40s,” Bianca says. “Treatments such as HRT or MHT can help, particularly with restoring some collagen and elasticity to the skin.

“As someone experiencing this myself, I had a lightbulb moment: instead of just treating the symptoms, let’s help educate women and connect them with an incredible menopause specialist who can help them through it.”

Enter Dr Emily Watters, a Brisbane-based GP who is now the Medical Director at Cosmedic Lab. Highly accomplished with a special interest in women’s health and aesthetic medicine, Dr Emily offers on-site consultations covering hormonal health checks, perimenopause management, HRT/MHT prescribing, and preventative care.

“We’re delighted to have Dr Emily on board,” says Bianca. “She’s an expert who’s also down-to-earth and highly relatable. Her Instagram page demystifies so many aspects of perimenopause and menopause, and we wanted to make that same education and expertise available to our clients.”

This comprehensive approach to women’s health means Cosmedic Lab is the place women can access everything they need to thrive into this new phase of life: hormone advice, tailored beauty treatments and cosmetic options.

One of Bianca’s favourite treatments for women in this stage is RF Needling.

“We experience a real decline in elastin and collagen as we age, but RF Needling is incredibly effective at stimulating collagen growth and achieving great results,” she says. “There are cosmetic injectable options that can do this too, and we discuss them during consultation.

“We all love the Synergie PressPause Serum, formulated specifically for women over 40, which helps prevent glycation-induced skin ageing and was the Winner of the Prevention Beauty 2025 Best Hydrating Serum for Hormonal Skin.

“There are so many ways to maximise your skin health so you look and feel like the very best version of yourself,” Bianca adds. “Alongside Dr Emily for women’s health, our team includes experienced aesthetic nurses, dermal therapists and beauty therapists who work together to help you achieve your skin goals.

“Your initial consultation with one of our friendly nurses is complimentary, and from there you can access services such as Hydrafacials, skin needling, chemical peels, aesthetic injections, LED light therapy and more – we’re a one-stop shop for getting back your gorgeous glow.”

Bianca is so passionate about supporting women that she recently hosted Cosmedic Lab’s first The Menopause Edit VIP Day, an empowering afternoon featuring honest insights from Dr Emily, a skin and menopause talk from Senior Dermal Therapist Deb, lucky door prizes, champagne, and plenty of laughter and connection.

I mention that while menopause podcasts and articles seem to be everywhere now, real-life gatherings like this are rare.

“Exactly,” Bianca says. “That’s why it’s so important to bring our community together – so they find their tribe, learn from each other and remember they’re not going through it alone. Watch this space for more events in the future!”

Women’s voices are getting louder, yet Bianca still hears concerning stories of women not receiving the treatment they deserve.

“Multiple clients in their 50s have told me they’ve been refused HRT – even by female doctors,” she says. “There’s still so much misinformation, even within the medical community, so we’re proud that Cosmedic Lab is a safe space where women feel heard and supported.”

“When your skin feels amazing, it gives you a confidence that flows into other areas of your life – and that’s something we all deserve, at every age!”
