Summer in the City in the Maroochydore City Centre
Summer is more than sandy, seaside days; it can also be full of flavour, fun and future opportunities. Rebecca Jamieson Dwyer explores the latest on offer in the Maroochydore City Centre.
Imagine strolling between premium dining destinations, sprawling parklands, vibrant markets and an impressive business precinct, all just a stone’s throw from our famously beautiful coastline. That’s the vision for Maroochydore City Centre, a masterplanned project that’s well underway to becoming an innovative city of the future.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said, “Maroochydore City Centre is emerging as a commercial hub, attracting businesses and creating thousands of local jobs.”
One exciting project underway is 50 First Avenue, a premium, state-of-the-art, 15-floor commercial tower that’s due for completion in 2025. Accommodating over 1,000 workers, its sleek, contemporary design, high-speed data connectivity and industry-leading sustainability credentials will make it a hub for global business and talent, anchored by technology and innovation. Work is well underway on the $100 million Maroochy Private Hospital which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This ten-storey, world-class medical, educational and research institution will feature six cutting-edge operating theatres and high-quality ward accommodation for 45 in-patients.
SOL by Walker is another hotly anticipated development that’s set to bring luxe living to the heart of Maroochydore. This exclusive collection of residences will include 251 one, two- and three-bedroom apartments, along with four-bedroom penthouses, all featuring bespoke resort-style architecture and amenities. It’s no wonder Maroochydore City Centre was awarded the Strategic Planning Project Award for Excellence at the recent Queensland Awards for Planning Excellence. In partnership with Sunshine Coast Council and SunCentral, Walker is leading the development and delivery of the project. Managing Director and CEO David Gallant said they were proud to receive the award, which recognised the enhanced placemaking and city making outcomes for the Maroochydore City Centre.
“The masterplan blends more than 18-hectares of lakes and parklands with homes, offices, restaurants, cafes and community amenities so you can live in a city surrounded by all the lifestyle benefits, and still be only a short walk to some of the best beaches in the country,” he said.
SunCentral CEO Amanda Yeates said, “Maroochydore City Centre is setting a new benchmark for urban renewal, demonstrating what can be achieved when innovative planning and sustainable design come together.”
Walking the tree-lined boulevards of the Maroochydore City Centre, you can see the world-class city start to emerge before your very eyes, and it’s exciting to think of the energy and opportunity that Sunshine Coast residents and visitors will enjoy and benefit from in the future. For now, the City Centre is already a wonderful place to live, work and play with fantastic restaurants like Market Bistro, Giddy Geisha and Bottarga; cafès such as Harvest and The Colombian Coffee Co; the award-winning Sunshine Coast Council City Hall; installations by local First Nations artists; and a plethora of other businesses that are already making this a vibrant destination.
