Why Slowing Down is the Power Move with Nikki Fogden-Moore
Everyone wants to go faster – scale faster, sell faster, post faster, earn faster. But speed without strategy is a race to burnout, says peak performance coach and author Nikki Fogden-Moore.
If you’re reading this on holiday in Noosa, good for you. Resist the urge to keep checking your phone, grab a comfy seat, and sit back and think, “How can I relate this to what I’m doing in life?”
Most founders and high performers I meet are addicted to movement however they often confuse motion with momentum, productivity with progress, and hustle with happiness.
They’ll outwork anyone in the room. But ask them what they’re actually working towards and you might get a pause, then a shrug, then a vague answer about ‘more’ – more clients, more revenue, more growth.
It doesn’t matter what size of business, whether it’s a family company with a few staff or a multi-million-dollar operation with teams of people, the hustle is real, and the feeling of being responsible for everyone and everything only gets tougher at the top.
This is where it gets uncomfortable and when it is most important to give yourself permission to step out for a moment and regroup. To be honest with what you need to be doing, what the goals are, and if you’ve allowed yourself the time to get radically clear on what matters most.
More is not a strategy. More is a default setting for people who’ve forgotten to define enough.
The Addiction to Urgency
We live in a world that has always, in one way or another, celebrated the grind: “First in, last out.” “Sleep when you’re dead.” “Keep pushing.” “AI will save you time and build your seven-figure business.”
But when you’re always pushing, you’re never checking. Checking alignment. Checking clarity. Checking capacity.
Every high performer eventually hits a ceiling. But we rarely realise that the ceiling wasn’t always imposed externally – it was self-built from a lack of self-awareness and a desire to do more, have more and be more.
I see this constantly with my private clients – founders running seven, eight, and nine-figure businesses who come to me exhausted, scattered, and wondering where the joy they once had is gone.
It’s simple: They scaled chaos. They scaled noise. They scaled a version of success that wasn’t even theirs.
It doesn’t matter what your turnover is. Your life P&L is just as important as your business one. Using AI and getting more external tools won’t help unless you have your own internal operation system aligned with health, wealth, happiness and a good mindset.
It’s time to consider what ‘great’ actually looks and feels like to you.
Here’s my thoughts on how to reset and align at any given moment, regardless of title, age or the stage your business is at:
Stillness is a Strategy
This isn’t about quitting. It’s about recalibrating.
The smartest CEOs I coach don’t just make time for vision – they prioritise it. You can too!
That means doing the work no one sees:
- Turning off the phone.
- Sitting in the silence.
- Asking the hard questions: “Is this still what I want?” “Am I building something I’ll want to keep?”‘ “What do I need to grow, delete, delegate and complete?”
What you will discover is powerful: when you remove the distractions, the truth becomes really loud and clear.
Along with this you will have the doubts, the limiting beliefs and what
I call ‘the blurts’ that usually would have held you back from taking the next right step. Write those down!
Clarity doesn’t come when you’re rushing. It comes in the stillness. And stillness is a discipline most people avoid, because silence reveals what speed masks – misalignment. It can be uncomfortable.
The Myth of Constant Growth – sometimes bigger is not always better
Growth at all costs is not just dangerous – it’s lazy thinking dressed up as ambition.
Real growth is intentional. It’s strategic. It’s sustainable.
That means sometimes you plateau. Sometimes you refine. Sometimes you stop adding and start editing.
That’s not a setback. That’s mastery.
True efficiency is not my doing more but growth by doing less – with precision.
The same goes for your personal energy.
You don’t need another productivity hack. You need a decision filter. A system to cut the noise and stay ruthlessly aligned.
That’s what I call a “Winning Week” – a structure that protects your energy, focus, and firepower.
This is why I’ve created a 3-Day Reset to help you to set up what your goals are first.
It isn’t about slowing down – it’s about recalibrating your system so you can operate from clarity, not chaos.
It’s designed specifically for founders, business owners, and high performers who need to get back to their best without losing momentum – but anyone can use it.
It’s the difference between leading a business… and being consumed by one.
What They Don’t Tell You About Success
Success isn’t built in the big moments. It’s built in the quiet ones.
When no one’s watching. When you say ‘no’ to the deal that looks good on paper because it feels wrong in your gut.
When you choose to rest, not because you’re lazy – but because you’re strategic.
- Rest is part of performance.
- Silence is part of success.
- Stillness is where your next best idea lives.
But it takes courage to stop. To zoom out. To ask: “If I keep going at this pace, where does this really end?”
The strongest leaders I know? They build space on purpose. White space. Thinking time. Design time.
Time to be unavailable to the world, so they can be fully available to their vision.
My Invitation to You
If you’ve been running fast, but feeling disconnected, it’s time to pause. Not forever. Just long enough to realign.
Block a half-day. No meetings. No emails. No distractions. Ask yourself:
- Where am I going – really?
- What feels heavy or forced right now?
- If nothing changed, would I be okay with this being my next three years?
If any of those answers leave you unsettled, good. It means your intuition is working. Now you just have to listen.
Because here’s what’s at stake: You can either keep racing towards someone else’s version of success… or slow down long enough to build your own.
Choose wisely.
