Make an Entrance with Earth Creation Landscapes

In Noosa, let’s face it, we like to make an entrance, and our homes are no exception! Pete Goodlet opens the door to grand entrances…

Our homes express our personality, taste, and style. So, when it comes to making an entrance, we want to make a statement. Something that says you have arrived! And what better way than in a home that sings with personality and sashays in style. Personally, I have never liked the term ‘street appeal’ – it is just a tad pedestrian, excuse the pun! Street appeal is almost like appealing to the masses and certainly not daring to stand out. Your entrance should be more elusive, and whilst being inviting, it should also offer a sense of intrigue. A hint – a tease – of what is to come. An entrance should have a sense of solidity, as should the fence surrounding it. Nothing is less impressive than arriving to a property with a flimsy fence and gate. Better to have nothing at all!

Beautiful planting and a strong archway or statement piece should mark the entrance to your home. Front fences and entrances should echo and enhance the style of your home. A gabled lynch-gate should match the gable of your roof. Though a scaled down version the pitch and style should match. The materials need not be the same, but the quality should be equal. Think bleached hardwood, against a white house façade.

Do you want your front garden and home to be private and discrete behind a high fence? Or open to your neighbours as part of a more sociable community? It may be lovely to wave to your neighbours as you do your evening potter in the garden. But then, just maybe, bothersome Beryl next door might just find a reason to linger looking longingly (we were waiting for her to arrive!) If privacy is your thing, a solid fence and entrance is probably best. Hopefully, libidinous Beryl will look further afield before you need to resort to a crocodile filled moat!

There is a sense of drama to entering a fenced enclave; your own private haven. You can make it lush with a riot of colour and foliage, or minimalistic with stone paving, monotone planting, and a single sculpture. The splashing of water is a fabulous enhancement to your arrival zone and immediately provides both a sense of drama and tranquillity. Drama in the movement, especially when lit at night, and tranquillity as the gentle sound soothes your senses, and removes you from the outside world. The outside world will come a-calling, hopefully in the guise of much appreciated visitors, so make sure that they can find your home but also the actual entrance. Remove the ambiguity with a big brave street number. With laser cutting and other techniques, it easy to create a stylish number and even a name for your home. While the old Do Drop Inn may lead to inappropriate intrusions from the aforementioned Beryl, why not get creative with the naming of your very own utopia, your Shangri-La. Letterboxes have become statement pieces in themselves and are an excellent place to display your number but feature your nameplate high and proud.

Light the way! It is very hard to enter sashaying like Marilyn, if you are stumbling in the dark. You want to enter with a vavavavvoom, not dive headfirst into a bush. And, while Marilyn loved the spotlight, most of us generally get blinded by them and you can find yourself falling into that bush again! Go for low voltage accent and path lighting in warm inviting tones. On special occasions you can light the way with lots of votive candles and music. A spectacular entrance sets the scene for a spectacularly, memorable occasion. Speaking of spectacular entrances, no one does them better than Stuart and his mighty team at Earth Creation Landscapes. They will create an entrance that will enhance the beauty of your home and tell the world you have arrived. Call them today to ensure your entrances are always grand!
