Five Rooms, One Pulse with Aloha Active
Why manage multiple memberships when you can have it all in one place? Nicole May explores the five-studio fitness model that is rewriting wellness in Noosa.
Whether you’re a long-term local or just stopping by, there is no doubt that Noosa is the pinnacle of wellness. But let’s be real: finding a fitness routine that stays fresh enough to keep you motivated can be a challenge.
For me, reformer Pilates has always been the go-to; I live for the coordination, core strength, and breathwork. However, the idea of heavy weight training in a group class? That was a concept I hadn’t explored – until I walked into Aloha Active.
I’m here to meet Joti-May Beach, the studio manager, who greets me with a smile and gives me a quick rundown of how the studio works. Aloha Active is located inside Noosa Blue Resort, and the team has created a wellness model that caters for everyone, with five different studios running every day with 12 different class modalities.
While owner Brett Flemming prefers to work behind the scenes, Joti is the one driving the momentum of what is clearly Noosa’s most diverse fitness hub.
“We’ve been in this current location for about a decade now,” said Joti. “A lot of locals still remember us as Bikram Noosa. It’s been a massive evolution from a single-style studio to this five-room space.”
The real draw here – the thing Joti says is rare in Noosa – is the variety offered under one single membership. You can hit a heavy lifting session at dawn and return for a restorative yoga class in the evening without paying anything extra.
We start our tour downstairs in the Hot Room, the studio’s original anchor. This isn’t just a room with the heater turned up; it features 20 infrared panels that keep the temperature between 33-38 degrees.
“Infrared is a healing modality,” Joti explains. “It’s a healthy heat that assists with detoxing, flexibility, and circulation.”
This studio hosts high-energy Inferno Hiit Pilates, Hot Yoga and the recently introduced Hot Sculpt which uses Pilates principles with heavier weights and slower, controlled movements for a slower, deeper burn. Next door, the energy shifts in the Reformer Studio where there are 12 brand-new reformer beds, and the classes are anything but slow.
“It’s dynamic,” Joti says. “Our teachers focus on intensity and engagement, teaching to the strongest person in the room. It’s become so popular that we’ve moved to a blanket reformer level so everyone can show up and go hard.”
Moving through the building, we come to the Cycle Studio, which houses 25 Schwinn bikes. They offer two distinct classes: Ride for those who want traditional RPM-style intervals and sprints, and Vibe for those who love a cycling class where pedalling, movement, and intensity sync directly to the beat of high-energy music.
Vibe is our rhythm cycling class – it blends cardiovascular endurance with upper-body movements,” Joti notes. “It’s choreographed, high-energy, and feels a bit like a nightclub on a bike.
“It’s one of the most popular ways to do a cardio workout.”
The newest addition to Aloha Active is the A-Performance Studio – a dark, moody space kitted out with top-tier AlphaFit equipment. Unlike a standard open gym, this is entirely focused on group functional fitness.
“It allows members to train together,” Joti says.“We have Sweat for CrossFit-style cardio, Strength for an instructor-led class, and Stronger for heavy lifting with barbells and rigs.”
These classes run in eight-week blocks and are perfect for people who want to lift heavy but want a trainer on hand to teach them the right form.
For balance, we head upstairs to Flow Studio which overlooks the resort pool and is light, bright, and calm.
“This is where we host a range of Yoga classes, including Vinyasa and Yin Yoga, and Barre which combines the strength and precision of Pilates with ballet principles,” Joti tells me, adding that the room was recently refreshed with new MoveActive mats, weights, and balls.
“We want our members to be able to show up and know that we have everything covered.”
As we finish the tour, Joti notes that the 10.30am and midday slots have become some of their busiest.
“People are working from home and prioritising their health into those midday gaps instead of just juggling classes around the 9-to-5 rush.”
With over 110 classes a week starting from 6am, the timetable is designed to fit into everyone’s schedules. There is also onsite and street parking plus showers and change rooms, lockers,
and the recently-refurbished Aloha Coffeehouse. There is also an additional wellness program with leading experts in nutrition, longevity and more.
“We are a boutique, Noosa-owned studio, not a franchise,” Joti emphasises. “Whether you want to sweat, lift, or just breathe, we have a fitness class for you, all in one place under one membership.”
There are also options for single or multiple class passes but with unlimited membership and a world of classes on offer, why wouldn’t you say ‘aloha’ to Noosa’s most diverse fitness hub?
