Spring into Care at Cura Day Hospital
Helen Walker discovers how a fresh approach to day surgery could genuinely transform the experience for locals.
Now open and welcoming patients within the growing Noosa Specialist Medical Centre, Noosa Day Hospital is bringing a new chapter of care to the region – one shaped by modern surgical excellence, thoughtful design and a genuine commitment to the community it serves.
As the 39th facility nationally for Cura Day Hospitals Group, Noosa Day Hospital represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare on the Sunshine Coast. Purpose built with three state-of-the-art operating theatres, contemporary recovery spaces and a broad range of specialist services from ophthalmology to orthopaedics, the hospital has been crafted in close collaboration with leading surgeons to meet the needs of Noosa’s residents.
More than just a new hospital, it offers expanded choice, shorter wait times and a smoother, more personalised patient experience. The hospital is expected to bring around 60 new local jobs to the region as recruitment continues, reinforcing the Group’s long-term presence on the Sunshine Coast alongside Kawana Private Hospital and Sunshine Coast Day Surgery.
From its foundations, Noosa Day Hospital has been guided by a simple philosophy: exceptional care should feel effortless. Calm, considered and personal, the kind of experience that reflects Noosa’s own way of life.
Walking through the new space with Stephanie Adams, Noosa Day Hospital’s CEO and Director of Nursing, I realise that this isn’t just a clinical facility, it’s a place shaped by people who genuinely care about how locals experience healthcare. It is clear how deeply she and her team have influenced every detail of the hospital’s design and philosophy.
“We’ve focused on creating an environment that feels calm, welcoming and supportive from the moment a patient arrives,” she said.
And you can feel that intention everywhere. The interiors are light filled and contemporary, with a softness that feels distinctly Noosa: uncluttered spaces, warm finishes and thoughtful touches that make the experience feel more personal than clinical. Stephanie explained that the hospital was designed with an appreciation for Noosa’s lifestyle and demographic.
“Accessibility, comfort and ease of movement were key considerations throughout the design process,” she said, noting how the team wanted patients to feel relaxed and reassured at every stage For a community that values wellbeing and quality of life, the environment needed to reflect that same sense of ease – and it does just that.
The purpose-built facility is impressive with every element designed around the needs of same day surgery, allowing the patient journey to be streamlined from admission through to discharge.
Stephanie said the integrated theatre technology, advanced sterilisation systems and carefully designed clinical pathways helped minimise delays and support operating efficiency.
“The result is a facility specifically designed to deliver modern day surgery at a very high standard,” she said. “Most people assume hospitals are designed by architects and builders. What they probably don’t realise is how much influence our surgeons and nursing staff have from the very beginning.”
Their input shaped everything from theatre layouts to workflow design, ensuring the hospital functions seamlessly for both patients and doctors. The hospital supports a broad range
of specialties including ophthalmology, gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery and pain management.
They’re also exploring opportunities to introduce additional services such as breast surgery and Mohs surgery (a specialised, highly precise technique for removing skin cancer) as community needs evolve.
For patients, this means greater choice, convenience and access to care within their own community. For GPs, it opens new local pathways for referral and treatment.
And for the region more broadly, it adds much needed specialist day surgery capacity at a time when demand for healthcare continues to grow, particularly among Noosa’s ageing yet active population.
Beyond the technology and clinical capability, it’s the small things that stay with you – the personalised care, the calm recovery spaces, the sense that every detail has been thoughtfully considered.
Standing in those light filled rooms, you realise it’s great when a hospital doesn’t feel like a hospital. I’m a firm believer it helps patients feel more at ease, which is an important part of healing process.
“It’s often the small details that make the greatest difference,” Stephanie said, and I couldn’t agree more. In a region known for lifestyle, natural beauty and community spirit, this new facility feels like a natural extension of the way we live here – modern, thoughtful and genuinely local.
