Sunshine Vibes at Sunshine Beach Surf Club
Fantastic family dining with views for days and a side of frolicking whales – what could be dreamier?! Rebecca Jamieson Dwyer discovers the best place to sea (sorry) and be seen this season…
There’s just something special about Sunshine Beach Surf Club. Maybe it’s the unobstructed views across the vast Pacific Ocean, which shifts from brilliant blue to shimmering gold as the sun sets. Maybe it’s the way the kitchen and bar never fail to deliver delicious food and drinks, championing local makers, distillers and producers as part of a unique menu that showcases Sunshine Coast creativity alongside old favourites. Or maybe it’s the passionate team and their commitment to creating a place where everyone feels welcome, strong connections are forged, and the community flourishes.
Whatever the magic is, it’s working. Sunshine Beach Surf Club was recently awarded Best Family Restaurant in South East Queensland at the prestigious Restaurant & Catering Awards, cementing its place as one of the region’s top dining destinations and giving the hard-working team some well-deserved recognition.
“We’re so thrilled to be recognised in these awards,” said General Manager Julie Strudwick. “It’s a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team. We hope it inspires more people in the region – both locals and visitors – to come and discover the magic of Sunshine Beach Surf Club.”
There’s no time like the present, with humpback whale season in full swing until November and these majestic creatures regularly cavorting just off the Coast. Who needs a boat when you can sip your sundowner and enjoy the sensationally splashy show from the Sunshine Beach Surf Club deck? Now that’s what we call a whale of a time! (sorry again).
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s time to dive into the locally sourced menu bursting with fresh, flavoursome dishes created by Head Chef Darren Sandilands – a Noosa native with global culinary experience. From crowd-pleasers like Schnitzel, Parmy and Salt-and-Pepper Calamari to globally-inspired fare like Spiced Snapper Tacos, Nasi Goreng and Cajun Chicken Salad Bowls, there’s something for everyone – whether you’re snacking on the deck, sharing a date night with a view, or celebrating a special occasion.
Little ones will feast like the tiny Kings and Queens they are with faves like bolognaise, fish and chips, and burgers, finished off with a free ice cream. Sweet!
“Our culinary team takes inspiration from around the world but keeps its heart firmly anchored in Sunshine Beach,” said Julie. “We source fresh, local ingredients wherever possible, and our chefs are encouraged to add their personal cultural influences and creative flair to every dish.”
Of course, no meal is complete without a matching drop. Luckily, that’s been taken care of, with the wine list taking you on a curated journey through some of the world’s most prestigious wine regions, offering something to suit every taste and budget.
“From 10 Minutes by Tractor Chardonnay of the Mornington Peninsula to elegant French Champagnes from the heart of Champagne, and rosé from Provence to delicate Tasmanian Pinot Noir, each bottle has been chosen for its exceptional quality and character,” Julie explained.
More of a cocktail person?
The cocktail list is a collaborative effort, with the bar staff contributing ideas and adding their own unique touches. Try the Mango Limoncello Spritz for the taste of summer in a glass, the Tiki Punch for tropical vibes, or ask the team to recommend something you’ll love.
If you’re after brews with your views, you’ll be impressed with the five rotational beer taps celebrating the diversity and quality of local craft breweries. Cheers to that!
