Winter Warmers & Vinyl Vibes at Peregian Beach Hotel

Nicole May discovers vinyl vibes and rich seasonal flavours at Peregian Beach Hotel this winter.

As summer’s high-octane energy dissolves into a soulful, slow-burning season, Peregian Beach Hotel becomes the place to be where the local pace gracefully shifts, finding a new rhythm in the warmth of community and the scent of slow-cooked spices.

Under the direction of co-owners Kylie and Sam, the Hotel has mastered the art of being exactly what the community needs, exactly when they need it. With five main zones to suit any occasion, the vibes are always high, and the venue and its incredible staff are welcoming in any season.

Head chef Matt Holt is admired for his no fuss, honest, coastal and Asian-inspired approach to what he calls ‘surfer food’. Winter brings some real winners to the table, including the triumphant return of the Massaman Lamb Shank Pot Pie – perfect with a glass of shiraz.

“This one’s a true crowd favourite that people were begging for us to bring back,” Kylie says.

Its creation is an exercise in patience, where the chefs roast whole delicious spices, including cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, before marinating the shanks overnight and slow-braising them in a rich, house-made massaman sauce. Encased in golden, flaky pastry, it is a dish that demands you linger.

“The Donburi bowls are another favourite, and they are back for winter,” said Kylie.

Whether you prefer grass-fed beef or Wild Mushroom, the wok-flamed Donburi rice bowls are full of flavour and offer a taste for every palate. Peregian Beach Hotel has access to the finest fresh produce right here on the Sunshine Coast, and the kitchen loves the creative freedom to create a seasonal menu, with small and medium dishes available all day and larger dishes served for lunch and dinner.

Thirsty? To spice things up, the bar has unveiled a refreshed curation of winter cocktails – think Fireside Cranberry Margarita, Kumquat and Ginger Caipirinha, or a heavenly Winter Solstice Spritz. Cheers to that!

If you’re a lover of the brews, Beer of the Month will offer a ‘Local Love’ price on featured brews. As the sun dips, the energy migrates to II Porto Cocktail Bar for Winter Vinyl Nights – an invitation to wind down to the analogue warmth of records. Every 2nd Saturday from 5.30pm guest DJs will bring a vinyl-heavy vibe, paired with exclusive bar and tapas specials.

“We love bringing live music to the crowd,” said Kylie. “DJ Ryskee will kick it off and we’ll welcome other local DJs throughout winter. Keep an eye on our gig guide so you don’t miss out.”

Whether you are seeking the fun of the Il Porto Cocktail Bar and al Fresco space (18+), the communal hum of the restaurant or hinterland and village views from the upstairs Palm Bar, each space has its own flavour to cater for everyone.

Peregian Beach Hotel even caters for those looking for a quiet night, whether it be a dish from the takeaway menu or a night in with a wood-fired pizza and a cheeky bottle from the drive-thru, its the quintessential winter destination. It’s a venue that doesn’t just host the season; it embraces the essence of winter with open arms and a perfectly chilled local brew.
