Epicurean Winter with Gusto

Winter is the time for comfort, good food and creating heartwarming memories. Carlie Wacker dishes up a menu of Gusto moments to add to your cool season calendar.

Sharing a meal with great friends and family is nourishment for the soul, and pairing a delicious dish with a thoughtfully-curated wine list is what the team at Gusto Riverfront Restaurant do best. As we ride the wave of winter in Noosa, let Gusto fill your soul, your stomach and your penchant for relaxed, fine dining on the iconic Noosa River.

With proud French owner Timothee Lepoutre at the helm of Gusto, the seasonal and modern Australian cuisine has always had ‘une touche de Francais’ and from now until the end of August, that touch becomes a full-blown Tour De France, with menus designed to transport us to two regions of France each month.

Enjoy the mild winter days dining on a one, two or three course menu with prices from $39 to $59; or layer up and lap up a magnifique three-course dinner for $65, all served with lashings of heartwarming hospitality.

If you’ve never tried the superb sips from Brockenchack Wines then do yourself a favour and book your table for Thursday 27 June at 6pm when Darren Naylor will be presenting his family vineyard wines grown in the high Eden Valley in South Australia.

The evening will feature seven wines across a five-course degustation menu, plus the opportunity to purchase Brockenchack wines on the night for less than the cellar door prices. Tickets are $149 and you’ll be served up seven varietals and share a special night that you’ll talk about for years to come.

Come 14 July, the French flags are raised and the community will gather for Bastille Day. Lunch and dinner bookings are available, and while soaking up the live French music you will be served up three courses for $99 with a Kir Royal, glass of Taittinger or Kronenbourg 1664.

Dale Potts is the much-loved Gusto sommelier, and he very cleverly curates wine pairings for each of the dishes at these events and there is one in particular that is his favourite.

“On Friday 26 July, Tim and I will present our annual Christmas in July Spectacular,” he beams.

“This year we have a special treat of a fine selection of imported Austrian wines from Stift Göttweig, Stadt Krems, Bründlemayer and Moric.

“Some of the wine varietals will include Riesling from the high terraces of the Danube, Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St Laurent.”

Dale will bring his years of experience in Austria to match a sumptuous five-course degustation menu curated by Chef Sacha Ryan.

“I lived in Austria for many years and that’s where my love of Austrian wines began,” Dale says. “I did a spectacular tasting on a visit earlier this year and were in Kamptal, northern Austria, with celebrity winemaker Fritz Miesbauer, who represents wineries from Stift Göttweig, and Stadt Krems Stift and we will be pouring these and other Austrian Wines for this special event!”

Chef Sacha has created a bespoke mouthwatering menu and you can indulge in the five courses with wine pairings for $179.

From Austria to Australia, the Clare Valley comes to Noosa for a very special Mitchell Wines dinner on Thursday 29 August where Angus Mitchell will present the Annual McNicol Cellar Release launch – this year the 2015 McNicol Riesling and 2010 McNicol Shiraz – and at least five more wines from the range.

“It’s always great to have the Mitchells in town every year for the Cellar Release launch at Gusto,” Dale says.

“This year Mitchells also celebrates 50 years of winemaking and we are excited to announce that Angus will also be bringing a Special 50th Anniversary Fortified for all to enjoy.”

So lock in the dates and loosen the belts – winter is about getting up close and comfortable with fine wines and delicious dining at our gorgeous Gusto Riverfront Restaurant.
