Simply Tres ET at Flo’s Creperie
Looking for a winter warmer with a whole lot of Francey flair? Jodie Cameron discovers Noosa’s ticket to bon appétit, no long-haul flight required…
Taking my two young boys out for a midweek dinner and getting home before bedtime, without any whinging, is something close to a miracle. But Flo’s Crêperie has a way of pulling it off. Sitting across from two chocolate-smeared faces, a gorgeous galette in front of me and a glass of pinot in hand, listening to our waitress rattle off the specials in a beautiful French accent –
I feel like I’ve been transported to France.
With its relaxed atmosphere, family-friendly vibe and a dinner menu that won’t break the bank, Flo’s delivers a little slice of France right here in Noosa. The menu offers something for everyone so I found the perfect excuse to invite Mum and Dad along, which also meant I could enjoy another cheeky glass of wine. And the best part? The service is friendly and efficient, our meals landed on the table before the kids had time to finish their crosswords, let alone muck up. Très bien, boys!
Co-founder Michelle Guillemard says every dish was thoughtfully crafted by Executive Chef, François Poulard, using seasonal ingredients and classic French techniques that have been the heartbeat of the kitchen since day one.
“Winter dinners call for something a little more heartwarming and we love creating the classic hearty, comfort dishes that have been on French tables for generations – slow-cooked, rich, and authentic,” Michelle said.
The new winter additions are ooh la la, designed to complement Flo’s beloved menu of crêpes and galettes, and they do so beautifully. As a long-time galette girl, I was spoiled for choice on the savoury front. Dad and I are blue cheese fiends so our eyes and belly landed on the chef’s special of blue cheese, pear, caramelised onions and walnuts, with Dad adding prosciutto for a delicious, salty pop. Mum opted for a smoked chicken, avocado and mushroom galette, while my little carnivores got stuck into the House-made Toulouse sausage & Paris mash with baby cos lettuce and onion mustard jus. And as the boeuf bourguignon drifted past with its slow-cooked beef cheeks, mushrooms and lardons in a rich red wine sauce – it genuinely smelt like winter in Paris.
“We’re always guided by the seasons in France, so it felt natural to bring that same philosophy here,” Michelle says. “Our winter dishes are the kind of meals that make you want to pull up a chair and stay a little while.”
As a six year old, I remember my mum pouring the crêpe batter onto the special pan, studying the tiny bubbles forming and wondering why they were smaller than pancake bubbles. That mystery remains unsolved, but watching my own boys experience that same first-crêpe wonder made me joyeux! We all finished, naturally, with Nutella crêpes and vanilla milkshakes all round. The boys asked to lick their plates and I wasn’t quick enough to stop them. Oh well, as they say, go with the Flo.
“We want people to walk in feeling like they’ve left Noosa for just a little while and feel that warmth, that ease, and that very French sense of taking pleasure in a good meal,” Michelle says. “It doesn’t matter if you’re on a date night or wrangling kids at the table, we want everyone to leave feeling looked after, properly fed, and maybe a little bit closer to being French.”
Open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Flo’s is the real deal. First opening in Noosa in 2021, founders Flo and Michelle expanded to the Mooloolaba Wharf in 2022 and haven’t stopped since. Their latest venture, Envie French Bakery in Alexandra Headland, is the next exciting chapter for the team who clearly have so much more to give.
So if you’re after something a little bit Francey this winter, make Flo’s your midweek go-to. Let the French flavours whisk you away to somewhere magical, and leave you with a full belly and a warm heart. Merci beaucoup!
