Winter Winners at Miss Moneypenny’s
Hastings Street’s iconic social dining destination is turning up the temperature for winter. Nicole May discovers what’s stirring the senses at Miss Moneypenny’s.
The Noosa winter air carries a crispness that demands a certain kind of refuge – a place where the lighting is amber, the music is curated, and the food speaks of warmth and craft.
This winter, Miss Moneypenny’s – folded into the essence of Hastings Street is doubling down on its social dining philosophy with winter warmers that blend a high-end culinary theatre with an irresistible soundtrack of special offers and events.
For owner Michael White, the After Dark series is as much about the visual experience as it is about the taste. The transition began in earnest with the launch of Pizza and Pours After Dark. Born from the runaway success of the weekday Pizza & Pours sessions, this Friday night evolution is designed to kickstart the weekend with a Mediterranean flair. It pairs authentic Napoli-style pizzas with a curated musical backdrop, transforming the polished Hastings Street space into a bustling Friday night refuge.
“We are placing a heavy emphasis on the front-of-house experience,” Michael explains, noting that the presentation and the evening’s flow are built around the theatre of the kitchen.
Guests aren’t just eating; they are watching the chefs at work, witnessing the artistry of the Napoli dough hitting the heat, creating a sensory bridge between the kitchen and the dining floor. It’s a savvy move, inviting guests to witness the behind-the-scenes brilliance of the kitchen.
If Friday is for the social vibe, then Wednesdays are for lovers of theatre and flavour. Launching on 15 July, Tomahawks and Tunes marks a significant milestone for the restaurant: the first time a tomahawk steak has graced the Miss Moneypenny’s menu. This isn’t just any steak. In keeping with the Noosa commitment to quality, the tomahawk is locally sourced, ensuring that the centrepiece of the meal supports the surrounding region.
The Wednesday winter dining package is designed to be an all-encompassing experience, featuring the premium tomahawk served with a leafy green salad and selection of house sauces.
Intended to turn the traditional mid-week slump into destination dining. To further entice the experience, those who book ahead will be treated to a complimentary house beverage – so be sure to plan ahead!
Much like the Friday sessions, the ‘Tunes’ element is essential. The music isn’t merely background noise; it is part of the feeling Michael is keen to cultivate – an environment where the sizzle of the meat and the rhythm of the music work in tandem to provide a sense of escape from the winter chill.
The indulgence of this in-house dining experience is enhanced by the venue itself. Miss Moneypenny’s is architecturally designed to seat guests on the edge of the venue, overlooking the vibrancy of Hastings Street, or in a more intimate setting at the rear of the restaurant, allowing a seamless flow between lively energy and slow, intimate dining.
During a season when many opt to stay in and cut back, Miss Moneypenny’s offers an opportunity to explore new dining options. Michael is delivering a high-quality experience that aligns with the essence of Noosa’s culinary scene. Michael’s vision for the winter is one of cohesion. A dining style that underlines the chefs and the cooking process, the restaurant is being transparent about its passion.
Whether it’s the Mediterranean influence of their globally inspired menu or the local provenance of their beef, there is a thread of authenticity that runs through every plate and every playlist. Miss Moneypenny’s is ensuring that this winter is anything but cold, offering a spirited haven where time graciously slows down, yet the night remains vibrantly young on Hastings Street.
Picture the sunset-hued glow of an Aperol Spritz in hand and the lingering, rich flavours that tantalise your senses. That’s sure to warm the heart.
