Mother Nurturer at NuYou Natural Beauty Day Spa
An INspiring Noosa woman proves that kindness is the key to happiness and a healthy business. Carlie Wacker introduces us to an inspiring mumpreneur with a heart as big as her day spa’s delightful waterfront deck.
Over three years ago Jo A’Hang floated into a whole new world when she took over the day spa at Noosa Marina and rebranded this picture-perfect pampering place as NuYou Natural Day Spa.
Jo has always been drawn to beauty but specifically services that help people feel their very best and offer more than a quick cosmetic fix.
NuYou Natural Beauty was born and the devotion to care continues.
What makes Jo so special is that she is buoyed by a super supportive family and radiates a genuine sense of love for family, community and her lucky clients.
I wanted to soak up some of her empathetic energy and find out why she is the Mother Nurturer (as I like to call her) she is.
Let’s start with her love story – it begins at 17 years of age in a small town named Tungkillo in South Australia.
Jo was being pursued by a lad – a long haired teen named Adam and he quickly won her heart. Adam, a proud Ngarrindjeri man, didn’t hesitate introducing Jo to the family and she was warmly welcomed by all.
It’s no surprise that this solid foundation of love blossomed into a marriage, they were engaged at 21 and soon welcomed two gorgeous babies into their world.
Jo has always been a nurturing soul and a woman made to be a mum and is exceptional in her role with children Jikara and Lukaya.
“I have raised my children with open communication and no judgement,” says Jo who lost her own mother as a young child.
Jikara (their first-born child) struggled with identity as a pre-teen and has battled through mental health issues which, if not for the strength of the family bond and the raw, open and honest communication, may have resulted in a different outcome.
To this day, Jik has transitioned and now identifies as a male.
“I am happy to share this journey as it helps other families in a similar situation and lets them know they aren’t alone,” Jo shares. “Sadly there is not a lot of help out there.”
This empathy and care for people is what makes the experience of time spent at NuYou Natural Day Spa unique.
Clients feel no judgment and an immediate sense of relaxation with Jo’s gentle and understanding demeanour and the waterside location also helps to wash away your worries (even if only for the time it takes to get your lashes lifted of your aching muscles massaged).
I love the openness of Jo – that’s what keeps families together and that’s why she is so good at what she does.
Her communication in getting to know, love and understand her clients and their needs is a real stand-out in this family-run business.
“I love my job and I do treat my clients like family,” she says. “I don’t want people to come here to change themselves – I want them to leave here feeling a more relaxed version of themselves.”
The commitment to creating the ultimate experience rather than offering a simple service extends to her support of the business community around her.
Noosa Marina is a hub of family-run businesses and Jo has grand plans to bring the retailers and vendors together with a number of events and activations that include fundraising and collaborative dining experiences to further grow the awareness of this important part of our region.
Noosa Marina is the easiest place to get to with the Noosa Ferry regularly transporting locals and visitors between Hastings Street and Tewantin.
So when you need a moment that feels like going home – make an appointment with Jo the Mother Nurturer at NuYou Natural Day Spa and experience that special feeling you get when you surround yourself with people who truly care and allow you to embrace a NuYou (plus you’ll leave with gorgeous skin or lovely new lashes).
