The perfect weekend just takes a little planning and sometimes thinking out of the box for ‘What Men Really Want’! Words by John Caruso.
Father’s Day is that one day of the year when dads get recognised for the important role they play in their kid’s lives. Thanks to my gorgeous wife and son Maximus, I scored well this year. Socks and jocks yes, however the most rewarding experience and the gift I was keen on ‘cashing in’ on the most was The Pina Colada Cocktail Package from NuYou Natural Beauty Day Spa, Noosa Marina.
The best part about the whole experience was that my son Maxie was going to do it with me. Except for the Pina Colada (he had a mocktail)!
A kind of father and son bonding moment, and to be honest he’s the kind of kid that really appreciates a great spa treatment since our family trip to Thailand in 2017.
Described as an escape to paradise with a luxurious ritual of a back, neck and shoulder massage, followed by a full body coconut sugar scrub and then a deep soak in a coconut milk bath with freshly picked rose petals before finishing with a hydrating facial and cocktail, this ‘journey to paradise’ was going to be everything and more!
Jo A’Hang is the owner of NuYou Natural Beauty Day Spa and after working in the disability sector and beauty industry and always dreamed of owning her own busines.
“When the opportunity arose to buy this business, I jumped at it,” she explains.
The location at Noosa Marina was previously called Sheer Bliss and Jo says she was initially attracted to the tranquil waterfront balcony.
“That was a standout feature for me when I used to come for treatments before I purchased the business,” she said. “That peaceful scene overlooking the boats on the water in the marina really struck me and I thought that it would be so cool to own this place.
Jo did just that in August 2019 when she purchased the business and changed the name to NuYou Natural Beauty Day Spa with the emphasis on making the treatments more natural.
“What I hope our clients experience as our point of difference is that when you’re having a pamper with us, you’re in your own little world, you can’t hear any noise or people shopping. It’s really nice and quiet. It’s so serene,” she said.
“There’s the fresh air off the marina when you’re out on the deck looking at the water and then when you’re done, the transition back into the real world is special. You’re not walking into a crowded shopping centre or onto a busy street, you step onto the wooden boards of the marina and there’s a real sense of calm about the place,” Jo says.
It’s true.
After our pampering which was as good as it sounded on paper, my son Max may have been thinking about customising his avatar on some computer game while I daydreamed of winning lotto and owning a monster-sized vessel, just like the ones I was gazing at moored in the marina. Thanks to Jo’s expert team, Karyn and Shae, I felt like my six numbers and the supplementary had already come up!
“We get some great feedback from our clients. Comments like ‘we’re not a stereotypical day spa’,” Jo says. “We treat everyone like family and the atmosphere and environment is very relaxed. The team is very intuitive and in tune with our clients and we all work at making sure our clientele gets the most out of their treatment.”
Maxie and I called Deb and spoke about our experiences in the car on the way home and I was hoping that a similar experience could be served up for the next special occasion.
Every season, Jo and the team create an exciting offer and the Tranquil Tequila Treat for summer would make an excellent Christmas gift idea, especially for that someone who enjoys pampering and Tequila (hint, hint).
“We think everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a special pampering so love putting these special offers together,” Jo says. “Pampering people and making them super happy is what I love doing. I enjoy seeing the relaxed faces of clients who have left their stresses behind. They literally are new versions of themselves; that’s why we’re called NuYou Natural Beauty Day Spa.”
For me the weekend would be complete if there was some kind of Formula One action I could watch once home and for Maxie, Fortnite beckoned.
