About
Noosa-based painter, Helen Peel came to art later in life, after careers first as a hairdresser and then an interior designer kept her creative instincts largely as a hobby. On retiring to Noosa, she finally found the time to travel extensively and paint in earnest, starting with pencil sketches in the streets of Florence before discovering her strength in portraiture and European village scenes.
Working primarily in oils, Helen’s work spans rich Italian and French village scenes, lush florals and exquisite portraiture, often drawing on imagery gathered from her travels. She’s known for her use of the demanding “rub off” technique, creating dramatic pieces that capture shadow and light with striking effect. Helen staged her first solo exhibition in 2010, and her work now hangs in private collections across Australia and overseas.
